President Rodrigo Roa Duterte issued Memorandum Circular No. 43 announcing the suspension of work in all government offices, government owned and controlled corporation and local government units at 12:00 Noon of Holy Wednesday, March 28, 2018.
This would give enough time for the workers to prepare for the Maundy Thursday and Good Friday celebration, wherein most employees will go home to their corresponding hometown and families.
Government agencies who are directly involved in services like Law Enforcement, Action Team for Preparation on Disasters and Calamities and other agencies whose services are vital to the needs of the general population are on standby.
Other branches of government and independent bodies as well as private companies, the decision will be up to the discretion of each administrators.
In connection with the Malacanang declaration, Governor Hilario Davide of Cebu Province, issued also a memorandum declaring the afternoon of March 28 as a Half-day Work. This would give chance for all Capitol employees to go home to their respective provinces and spend Lenten season with their families.
It has been a Filipino family tradition for Catholics to spend time going to retreats, joining in the Station of the Cross, watching the re enactment of the “Crucification of Jesus” and the “Siete Palabras” and praying together. Not to mention doing “PUASA” together over a feast of “Binignit”.
