The City of LapuLapu will be celebrating the annual “Kadaugan sa Mactan” or the “Battle of Mactan” on April 27, 2018 with numerous funfilled activities and programs initiated by LapuLapu City Tourism council.
Presidential Proclamation No. 461
Last April 2, 2018, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte through his Executive Secretary, Salvador Medeldia issued Proclamation number 461 declaring April 27, 2018 as a special Non-working Holiday for all Oponganons in the celebration of the annual Kadaugan sa Mactan, which he believes that it is fitting and proper to give chance to the constituents of the city to celebrate and participate in the occasion.
The Kadaugan sa Mactan or Battle of Mactan
This is a significant event in the Philippine History. It depicts how Spanish Conquestador, Ferdinand Magellan had been killed in the attempt to conquer Mactan by then Tribe Leader – Datu LapuLapu (and this is how the city got its name). This event also serves as a testimony to the rich cultural and historical heritage of the Filipinos.

Which is held at the shores beside Mactan Shrine is always a colorful event with the presence of popular artist both from Manila and Local talents. This year Datu LapuLapu will be portrayed by Hunk Actor Derrick Hubalde, Reyna Bulakna (LapuLapu’s wife) by Cebuana actress Dionne Monsanto and Adrian Alandy will be this years Ferdinand Magellan.
Kadaugan sa Mactan Food Festival
One highlight of the annual event is also the “Kadaugan sa Mactan Food Festival” which will start on April 13th onwards, featuring the best cuisine of the island at a special rate/price. This give chances to the locals to enjoy and taste the best cuisine of known restaurants in the Island. Regular participants are Shangrila Mactan Resort & Spa, J Park Hotel, Waterfront Hotel Resort & Casino, Movenpick Hotel, Solea, Crown Regency, Goldberry Suites, etc..
“Rampada”
A must-watch event is also the “Rampada sa Karsada” featuring local dance groups dancing to the Latin beats and inspired with the colorful costumes ala-Rio de Janiero Festival of Brazil. This is Oponganons way of celebrating greatness and the colorful heritage in the victory of Datu LapuLapu over Magellan.
