DepEd’s LRN on K-12 Program

Definition of K-12

K to 12 refers to the Basic Education curriculum which means Kinder to Grade 12. To summarize the system; – 1 year in Kindergarten, 6 years in Grade School, 4 years in Junior high school and 2 years in Senior high school.

You may take note that what is required here is only one year for Kinder to be able to enroll in Grade I. Some parents opt to enroll their children in preparatory classes as early as their kids turns 2 years old in Playgroup, Nursery then Junior Kinder before Kindergarten proper. This is a matter of parents choice as preparation of their children or advancement of their kids intellectual capacity.

 

What if my child will not be accepted for enrollment?

Dep Ed’s directive follows – “No school can refuse enrollment of children”.

If your child is 5 years old with cut off on August 31 on that particular school year and is enrolled in Kinder class, then he/she must be issued an LRN or Learning Reference Number.

What is LRN?

The LRN or Learning Reference Number is issued per student which is the basis of the records the school (he/she is enrolled as Kinder) must submit to DepEd for documentation purposes. LRN is also a requirement for students who will enroll in Grade 1. If your child has no LRN then he/she can not be accepted for Grade 1 either in Public or Private school.

Reasons for non issuance of LRN

  • A child even with 2 years of prep school but has not reached the age of 5 for the school year enrolled (cut-off is August 31) can not be issued an LRN
  • The school you enrolled your child is not accredited with DepEd.

So parents be careful in choosing school for your children. Verify first if it is Registered and accredited with the DepaEd. There are fly-by-night school operating for the sake of personal interest and monetary rewards. It is always good to play safe than be sorry. Your child’s education is at stake.

  2. Hi sir/ma’am, until now my child has no LRN. Suppose to be ay grade 2 na po sana siya pero pinababalik po sa grade 1. Pumayag na po kami at pati yung bata ay ok na rin pero ayaw pa rin daw pong pumasok ang pangalan niya para mabigyan ng LRN..ano po dapat naming gawin?

      You may check your nearest DepEd Division office and refer the matter to them.

  3. My child took pre-k but their school only issued LRN for kindergarten. Is there a way where I can still enroll my child to grade 1 and have his pre-k be credited?

    • Hi Nikki!
      Unfortunately, he has still to enroll in Kindergarten since DepEd’s K-12 curriculum includes regular kindergarten to be issued an LRN. You may try to visit your nearest DepEd Division office and refer the matter.

  4. pano po ang case ng mga bata na over age (supposedly po last school year sila dapat na enrol sa kindergarten s.y. 2018-2019)na po pero hindi pa po na ka kinder and has no lrn?

      • Paano po pag hnd nakapag Kinder ang bata? Pero nakapagkinder po sya sa DSWD. Hindi pa rin po ba sya mabibigyan ng LRN? Pero tinanggap po sya sa Gr. 1 at Hindi naman po hinanap ang LRN nya.
        Ano po dapat namin gawin para mabigyan sya ng LRN?

  8. Hello good evening sir/maam. Ask ko lang po. Nakapagexam na po kasi yong anak for LRN but wala parin siya LRN NUMBER. Lumabas na din po result noong exam at pasado naman but still wala pong LRN NUMBER NA KASAMA.

  9. Nagbabago po ba lrn ng kinder if nagtransfer sa ibang school nung maggrade 1?kasi yung anak ko nagbago yung lrn nya.. Sa manila sya nagkinder at dito sa baguio naggrade 1

  10. Hi. Nagkinder 1 na po anak ko, then nagtransfer sa public and kinder po xa ngayon dun. He’s turning 6 years old this October po. May LRN na ba ang anak ko? And ang alam ko pwede na sana xa mag Grade 1 ngyon dba?

  11. Ano po dapat kung gawin.. Nakakagigil lng na kung kelan mag high school anak ko.. Tsaka ko nalaman na deactivate ang LRN nya.. Meaning walang permit ang school nya dati. Pakasinungaling ng school na yun. Nakakaiyak isipin na isang buong taon sakripisyo.. Ganun lng.

  12. Hi. I just read Nikki’s comment and my case is somewhat similar to hers. My youngest went through Nursery and Kinder 1. Unfortunately due to some matters, we were not able to enroll him in Kinder 2. He just turned 6 this October 21 and we are planning on enrolling him this coming June as an incoming Grade 1 student. According to his former school, he needs to undergo assessment in DepEd so he can be given an LRN prior to enrolling in Grade1. Is the ECCD assessment the one that he needs to take? Thank you!

  13. Ask lang po posible po bang walang lrn ang isang bata kapag nagstop po sya ng pagaaral o kung may hindi nabayaran sa school lalo kung private school?sana matulungan nyo po kami..slamat po
