President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed Presidential Proclamation No. 269 declaring Ten (10) Regular- Holidays and Eight (8) Special non-working Holidays for the country. This would mean long week-ends-break for our working citizenry for the year.
Provisions of Presidential Proclamation No. 269 (July 17, 2017)
The following regular holidays and special days for the year 2018 shall be observed in the country.
A. Regular Holidays
January 1 – New Year’s Day
March 29 – Maundy Thursday
March 30 – Good Friday
April 9 – Araw ng Kagitingan
May 1 – Labor Day
June 12 – Independence Day
August 27 – National Hero’s Day
November 30 – Bonifacio Day
December 25 – Christmas Day
December 30 – Rizal Day
B. Special (Non-Working) Holiday
February 18 – Chinese New Year
February 25 – EDSA/People Power Revolution Anniversary
March 31 – Black Saturday
August 21 – Ninoy Aquino Day
November 1 – All Saint’s Day
December 31 – Last day of the Year
C. Additional Special Non-Working Days

For the provision in the declaration of special holidays for Eidul Ftr and Eidul Adha, dates for the Islamic holidays shall be determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar (Hijra) or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible or convenient. The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) shall inform the office of the President of the actual dates on which these holidays shall respectively fall.
In view of the proclamation, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) shall promulgate the implementing guidelines for this.
This Proclamation shall take effect immediately.
The Presidential Proclamation for the extra holidays, were declared and aimed to “strengthened family ties”, while commemorating such activities. It is also one way of promoting local tourism for our own kababayans.
So, start planning for your holiday break. You may enjoy a day or two at the beach, or a getaway holiday and commune with nature. You may spend it with friends or relatives, but mostly keep the memories.
