Minimum Wage Increase to Take Effect on August 3, 2018

Good news mga Kababayan specially mga workers within Cebu and the whole of Region VII!

The clamor for wage increase has been an issue which stems from the increase of the  goods and commodities including fuel. The Filipino citizen has been suffering since an ordinary worker can hardly met up the family’s basic needs.

The Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board (RTWPB) approved an increase ranging from P10 to P20, to take effect on August 3, 2018 with figures based on classification, following a petition of a P155 increase filed by Cebu Labor Coalition. And P120 increase filed by the Association of Labor Trade Union – Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (ALU-TUCP).

Villamor, the chair of the regional wage board explains that the P20 increase is the most they can give to keep both the labor and business sector going. Imposition of a much higher  increase may induce some problems which could close the business or possible retrenchment.

Minimum Wage Classification/Distribution

  • P20 wage increase applicable to workers in Class A Cities in Cebu and the neighboring towns and cities from Danao in the north, to Carcar in the southern part of Cebu.
  • P15 wage increase for workers in Class B, C & D on areas like Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Bohol and the rest of Cebu Province
  • P10 wage increase for employees in Barangay Micro Business Enterprises (BMBE).

The said increase shall be published in newspaper of general circulation, to include local dailies prior to its implementation, according to Regional Director Alvin Villamor of the Department of Labor and Employment in Central Visayas.
